Swift-Lite is the home of Hookah Charcoal
The company was formed in 1959 in Neasden in North London by Bernard Delaunay who invented a square quick lighting charcoal tablet by accident. The product was sold just in the UK into the church incense market.
The company was taken over in 1983 by Blackman, Pavie & Ladden Ltd who were general charcoal importers and packers of charcoal for sale mainly into Indian tandoori customers. The Charcoal tablets we manufactured from waste by-products of the packing process.
Blackman, Pavie & Ladden Ltd developed the charcoal from the square block into the now familiar disk shaped concave, convex shape to make it more suitable for burning in thuribles.
During the 80s Blackman, Pavie & Ladden started to export their products into the Middle East, where the product was initially used for incense burning, but people also started to used the product as a quick lighting block for smoking hookah pipes.
In 1991 Swift-Lite Charcoal Company Ltd was formed and the production of charcoal tablets rapidly expanded, as did the home market and export markets.
In 2004 the company was awarded the prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise in the International Trade section in recognition of the export markets that it had penetrated.
The company now sells to clients in the UK, Europe, North Africa, Middle East, South Africa and North America, and its clients recognise the strong brand awareness of the Excelsior, Swift-Lite, Shisha-Lite and Coco-Lite products.
